Ruby's Shabby Chic - My Wedding Doll (New tradition we created)

You are probably wondering why I have been posting more crafts and less art journaling.  The reason is that I am photography some of the many crafts I have created thru the years and posting them on the "National Craft Month" Board on Pinterest from Stampinton & Company.
This doll is approximately 40 years old.  It was my doll when I was a little girl.
This is what we did with this doll:

  1. My mother and I sew a wedding dress on the doll.  All the appliqués and pearls were hand sewn one by one.  We also made the fan flower arrangement and the veil.
  2. My mother on the day of the wedding carried the doll to the limousine car that was going to transport me to the church.
  3. The doll and I went to the church.  (I held her and many wonderful thoughts cross my mind to personal to write her!)
  4. When my dad helped me out of the limousine car the doll stayed in the limousine car.
  5. We had the ceremony and when all was done and we returned to the limousine car and the doll was already removed (my mom took it) which to her represented that I was now a married girl and my attention is to my husband and the family that would come and not the fantasy of playing with dolls.  (Sssshhhh… I still love to buy and play with dolls. This is a new tradition that I plan to do with my daughters or future daughter in law).
I hope that you have enjoyed the pictures and the reason for this doll looking this way! Comments or questions are welcomed.

Colorful Handmade Ruby's Crayons Creation # 2

For this project…

  1.  I took the crayons' wrapper paper off then carefully cut them into different sizes when arranging them into different letters.
  2. The background is white foam board.
  3. The wood used for the border was purchased at Lowes and it is nothing more than "wood trim".
  4. The wood border were spray painted in turquoise and cut to size (very easy to cut with a small hand saw).
  5. Finally I hot glued everything and wrote words that spoke to me at the moment.

This cute display is in my office.  Enjoy!

Ruby's Creations: DNA Earrings

Do you know what DNA stands for?

I made these earrings many years ago when I taught Anatomy-n-Physiology and Biology (she's a nerd?)
Every time the lesson had something to do with DNA I wore the earrings. Fun, fun, fun.

What was beautiful today?

I love to draw and paint.  For this picture I took watercolor paper and drew and watercolored the butterfly (which is now her hat) and on a separate sheet of Strathmore watercolor paper I drew her, covered her carefully and then sprayed the background with dylusion spray and used Stazon and stamped some words.  Then I played with the butterfly and find just the right place to put it on her hand and my husband (thanks Gary) gave me the idea for this final look. Fun, fun, fun!

Ruby's shabby chic - Holds Make Up, Brushes, and more (Mason Jars)

Who doesn't have mason jars and a glue gun!
This is what I created to hold my makeup brushes and makeup.
Fits nicely on my bathroom counter and keeps me organized.
Here are a few more pictures when I was creating them.

The possibilities are endless….
